What is the song understand by Omah Lay about?
It is a song on heartbreak. The artist talks about how a lady he cared for and loved dearly broke his heart in the song. The lady dumped him for his best friend. He is perplexed as to why she would choose to break his heart despite going the extra mile for her, despite the love, protection, care, attention, money and all he gave to her, despite sticking his neck out for her. He thought the feeling was mutual.
He doesn’t understand why she broke his heart or why she left him for his friend. He is emotionally hurt, and it is taking a toll on him. It is telling on his behaviour.
View some lines below that show he gave her full attention, put others aside for her sake, defended her, took risks for her, and that he is emotionally hurt:
“All of my fans I pity for them (I pity my fans)
I don mad I quickly condemn (I am angry and quickly condemn)
I don fight uniform men (I have fought uniformed men).”
The artist hopes to be emotionally healed by God from her heartbreak.
The use of the words “No fit understand” means he is at a loss and can’t figure out why the lady will choose to break his heart, as it seemed like he protected her, spent on her, cared for her and satisfied all her needs, but still dumped him for the friend.
Lyrically: The song comes in two verses. Omah Lay took the pre-chorus and the chorus four times, respectively. The artist sang in pidgin. But he fused it with a Yoruba word, Oluwa, which means God. The lyrics are meaningful, heartwarming and in order.
“All of my fans I pity for them (I pity my fans)
I don mad I quickly condemn (I am angry and quickly condemn)
I don fight uniform men (I have fought uniformed men).”
The above lines, was Omah Lay trying to tell us that after she broke his heart, it affected his behaviour, his relationship with his fans, and he was transferring aggression?
“You don cut my weavon and thread ah (You have cut me weavon and thread).”
The above line signifies heartbreak.
Vocal: The artist was very expressive with his appealing vocals. His vocals are clear and emotional as well. You need to watch the video of this song. Omah lay was emotional. It was like he had suffered some heartbreak in reality.
Melody: Melodic. So melodic, I am fascinated by this song that I keep repeating it. Now I understand why it was topping the chart for weeks; it is a great melody. The main instruments used in this song’s composition include drum, piano, conga, violin and saxophone.
