What is the song “See finish” by Dapo Tuburna and Mayorkun about?

Dapo Tuburna and one of the DMW artists, Mayorkun, use the popular slang “See finish” to admonish people not to lose their worth in their day-to-day dealing. In essence, don’t let people misuse your virtue, finish the good in you and make you worthless.

They also advise people to do the right things and do away with pride or any ill attitude.

When translated to English, the pidgin word ‘See finish’ means ‘To see it all. 

It means when two or more people know themselves in and out. That means they are already familiar with themselves; there is nothing new.

However, in this song, “See finish,” means to see all of you in such a way that you become useless. Nothing you do matters again. You are also taken for granted.

I am, however, wondering what the artists mean by the following:

“Dem go finish your biscuit (They would finish your biscuit)

“Dem go finish your sweet (They would finish your sweet)

Moving on, I disagree with this Mayorkun’s line in verse 2, “You don blow before no be celebrity (You were once popular doesn’t make you a celebrity again).”

Mayorkun should know that everyone has their own time; the fact that you are not the rave of the moment doesn’t mean you are no longer a celebrity. You may just not be highly celebrated like the rave of the moment.

Lyrically: The lyrics are in array. The song comes in two verses, taken by Dapo Tuburna and Mayorkun, respectively. Verse 1 and 2 have the same number of lines. Mayorkun and Dapo Tuburna took the chorus thrice. 

The artists sang in pidgin and flowed nicely on the beat. They used punchy Lines and catchy lyrics. The lyrics are not straightforward, kind of complex, as the artists mainly used slang. It would be difficult for a non-expert to understand.

Vocal: It is clear, strong, and confident. The artists flowed well on the beat.

Melody: This song is so melodic. There is no way this song will come on air, and you will not sing along. The principal instruments used in the song’s composition include conga drum, bass drum, piano, saxophone, and violin.
