Who sang the song hold me down?

Nigerian artist, Lyta

The Review

How many more record label moves will Lyta do? From YBNL to DMW, and now to Marlain Music record label; odi egwu (As in, this is serious)

Anyway, I wonder if Lyta and his record label boss- Naira Marley, have settled the theft issue concerning this video. Lyta was said to have plagiarized another artiste’s music video.

What is the song hold me down by Lyta all about?

“Hold me down” means a lot of things, but, in the context of this song, it means not letting someone off your hands or not letting someone go.

It is a love song. In the song, the artist has a profound love for a particular lady who is proving hard to get despite the artiste’s promises to care of her materially, financially, and otherwise. He, however, urges her to hold him down before it is too late before another lady grabs him.

Lyrically: The song has two verses. The pre-chorus and chorus were taken twice each while the post-chorus was taken thrice—the post-chorus added melody to the song. The lyrics flow well on the beat. The artiste sang in pidgin and Yoruba, a Nigerian language. The lyrics are fair.

Vocal: The artist was consistent with his vocal quality. He was too self-conscious; no real feelings were attached to the song.

Melody: I think the controversy surrounding this video gave the song an upbeat because the melody is not that engaging. The rhythm, however, flows well. There was consistency in the style of rhythm. The primary instruments used in the composition of the song include drums and piano.
