I love everything about this song; the track itself, the visual, the costumes, the choreography (the latter part though), and Mercy’s performance. This is another song that my neighbor succeeded in playing into the catalog of songs to be reviewed on the Ogefash Photoblog. God! My neighbor wouldn’t just let this song stop playing. She played this song repeatedly likewise “Omekannaya” by the same artist.
Moving on, this song is quite technical. I did not realize that until my church youth choir ministered the song. Honestly, I used to score them 100% but when they ministered this song; the percentage dropped drastically. But, really they are great, it is just that the song “Chidubem” was too technical for them.
What is the song “Chinedum” by Mercy Chinwo about?
Depending on the way you want to phrase the grammar, but Chinedum is an Igbo word in Nigeria that literally means God is going with me or directing me or leading me.
The song talks about the importance of having God’s backing as well as being directed by God in life in order not to live a life of vanity.
View in verse 1…
“Except you build a house
The builders build in vain
Me I go follow you dey go”
Also, Mercy Chinwo in the song appreciates God for elevating her in her career and all areas of life. She also shows gratitude to God for always directing her in all ways.
According to Mercy, God’s direction has taken her higher. God’s direction makes all things work for her good. His direction has made her successful.
The artist points out the great benefit of God’s direction in her life. She says there is promotion, progress in business, an abundance of wealth, and an increase in greatness on all sides.
Furthermore, because she is following God’s direction, she is not working in vain and she doesn’t struggle for anything; all things fall in place for her. Her life is for the glory of God!
Lyrically: The lyrics to this song are meaningful and inspiring. It, however, doesn’t follow a particular sequence. The artiste sang in standard English and pidgin but fused it with the Igbo word “Chinedum” which means “God directs me or God is following me”
Vocal: Mercy has a very appealing vocal. The beat to this song is melodic also. The major instruments used to compose the song include drums, piano, and shakers.
Visual: I love the video; she was really in high spirit. She was expressive all through the song. I love the video concept; so different from the norm and very interesting to watch. The video has great lightning and high quality.
Location: The video was shot in Nigeria. The setting of the video is beautiful. The video was shot in a desolate; desert. In the video, the artist went on fasting and prayer, and spiritual meditation on a mountain.
By the way, I sighted Judiikay at the 3 minutes 52 seconds of the song. Oh, I love you Judiikay!
